Caledon State Park Education Support Specialist I Open until filled

Caledon State Park located in King George, VA, is seeking an Education Support Specialist I.

DUTIES: Education Support Specialist I (parks interpreter) provides meaningful educational opportunities and experiences for park guests by interpreting the significance of the park's natural/historical/and cultural resources. The Education Support Specialist is responsible for the daily planning and conducting of interpretive programs and educational outreach, including corresponding with the general public, schools, scout groups, home school organizations, etc. about programming. The position is responsible for maintaining and helping run the visitors center. The Education Support Specialist assists with the development of new educational programs, and with planning an interpretive schedule.

Other duties include maintaining all interpretive resources and ensuring they are in good working order, creating new programs, working with other local organizations to diversify programming, writing blogs, posting photos to flickr, attending professional development workshops and seminars, obtaining facilitator certification in curriculum guides, such as Project Wild, assisting park visitors using good customer service techniques, keeping accurate records and assists with other duties as assigned.

The Education Support Specialist may be required to perform other park-related duties during emergencies or on nonrecurring basis. Position requires shift work, including weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicant must have the ability to organize and conduct nature, culture and history programs for all ages; ability to effectively communicate with very diverse audiences of people of all ages, both verbally and in writing; knowledge of Virginia history; understanding of ecology and familiarity with the area's flora and fauna. Ability to paddle a kayak, and to operate a vehicle with a trailer. Individual is required to possess or have the ability to obtain a valid driver's license.

No benefits are associated with wage or seasonal positions which are limited to, but not guaranteed, 1500 hours of work from May 1 to April 30th each year. Rate of pay: $8.00-10.00 hourly.
