The following DCR positions are being recruited. Unless otherwise stated in the job announcement, to be considered for a listed position, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the close date stated in the job announcement.

2013 Seasonal Summer Employment, Mason Neck State Park, Closes 3/15/2013

Maintenance Ranger (Trades Technician I) (4 positions) Hourly Rate: $10.00

DUTIES: Maintenance rangers perform duties such as mowing, weed eating, trails maintenance, trash removal and pickup, cleaning in buildings, assisting skilled trades employees (park rangers), and other maintenance type activities requiring physical labor. May also work at the cartop boat launch assisting customers who rent canoes, kayaks and bicycles with getting proper equipment and putting the boats in and out of the water as well as keeping canoes, kayaks and bicycles and all related equipment clean. Applicants must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds unassisted and work in outdoor conditions. Must have a valid driver's license. Works rotating shifts both days and evenings. Weekends are required.

Contact Rangers (Admin. and Office Specialist I) (2 positions) Hourly Rate: $10.00

DUTIES: Serves as a front line representative of Mason Neck State Park to the visiting public. Collects park fees at the contact (entrance) station, responds to a variety of visitor questions, and provides assistance and information to the public. Operates a cash register and provides required accounting of funds collected. Weekends are required. Contact Rangers work 10 ½ hour shifts with a half hour break.

Parks Interpreter (Education Support Specialist I) (1 position) Hourly Rate: $11.00

DUTIES: Plans and presents a variety of programs, for visitors of all ages, focusing on the natural, environmental, historic and cultural features of Mason Neck State Park. Programs will include campfires, nature crafts, environmental education, recreational activities and outdoor skills. May assist with canoe and paddle boat tours. Will maintain a log of visitor participation. Keeps updated information posted on park kiosks. Works in the visitor center greeting guests and providing information as well as making sales using a cash register. Requires standing, bending and walking in the outdoors exposed to the elements. Preferred qualifications: One year of college with major or minor study in one of the fields of natural sciences or history desirable. Have basic knowledge of Virginia's flora and fauna, particularly birds, and the ability to plan, organize and conduct tours and programs featuring them. Must be comfortable with public speaking and providing customer service to the general public. A valid driver's license is required. Applicant must be available for evenings, weekends and holidays. Must provide own uniform.
