2013 Seasonal Summer Employment, Smith Mountain Lake State Park, Open Until Filled

Maintenance Ranger, $8.00 per hour Position duties include: Performing recurring grounds care, housekeeping, routine building maintenance, minor construction repairs, and general maintenance tasks associated with grounds care, building care, and equipment maintenance. Daily work tasks include general facility maintenance, mowing grass, cleaning rental cabins, trash and litter removal, debris cleanup, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and other duties as assigned. Basic knowledge of hand tools, power tools, tractors, lawn mowers, and other maintenance required. Required to operate park owned vehicles, riding mowers, power trimmers, tractor. Must be at least 16 years old and possess a valid driver's license.
Lifeguard, $8.00 per hour Safeguards and regulates the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe practices and accidents; is alert to note possible swimmers in distress. Strictly enforces policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons and promptly warns users of existing safety hazards. Performs rescues and appropriate follow-up procedures, including the use of any available equipment in the performance of First Aid/CPR, and required after action reporting of rescues. Responsible for cleaning area surrounding beach facility, trash/litter pickup, sweeping sidewalks, & cleaning restrooms. Successful candidate must complete Red Cross Lifeguard Certification, Waterfront training, First Aid and CPR/AED training.
Contact Ranger/Office Staff, $7.25 per hour Assists visitors by providing information regarding services provided by State Parks and other local attractions. Maintain a clean work area; assist with inventory of gift items, and selling of gift items. Provides coverage at the parks contact station and park office. Required to collect revenue, operate a computer, cash register, fax machine, laminator, handheld radio & multi line phone system. Position provides accurate and detailed information on the campsite and cabin reservation procedures/information, park fees, directions, pricing, annual passes, trail information, park interpretive programs, and local area information. Performs clerical duties such as answering telephones, copying, and typing correspondence.
Concession Services, $7.39 per hour Performs tasks as assigned in the snack bar. Duties include, but are not limited to, cooking/preparing/serving food and refreshments, use of kitchen equipment such as grills and deep fryer, washing dishes, and keeping kitchen area and equipment clean and operable. Upkeep of concession facility to include sweeping, mopping, cleaning tables, and removing trash. Responsible for weekly inventories of food and merchandise, cash handling and use of cash register for sales relating to food, merchandise and swim ticket sales.
