DCR is looking for talented people to fill positions listed below. Unless otherwise stated in the job announcement, to be considered for a listed position, you must complete and submit an electronic state application by the close date stated in the job announcement.

2013 Seasonal Summer Employment, Holliday Lake State Park, Closes 3/5/13

located in Appomattox, Virginia has summer employment opportunities for the following 2013 seasonal positions:

PARKS LIFEGUARD - $7.39/hr JOB DUTIES: Provides daily safety for park guests at beach area. Assists with renting boats to park guests at boathouse and provides appropriate equipment (PFD's, oars, etc) for boat rentals. Operates cash register and conducts retail sales at boathouse. Assists management with merchandise inventory. Provides First Aid and CPR assistance when required. Responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of beach and boathouse area, including trash removal and goose control.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 16 years old, have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must have current Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification (or be willing to obtain at your own cost by start date). Previous water safety experience preferred, but not required. Must be able to work well with other staff and with park guests. Must provide own uniform (through Virginia State Park supplier) and must be willing to work shift work, weekends, and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

MAINTENANCE RANGER - $7.39/hr JOB DUTIES: Performs the recurring grounds care, maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate state park facilities. Informs visitors of the park rules and regulations. May be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies or on a non-recurrent basis.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 16 years old, have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies, ability to organize and perform routine cleaning and maintenance functions. Must be able to work well with other staff and with park guests. Must provide own uniforms (from Virginia State Park supplier) and must be willing to work shift work, weekends, and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

CONTACT RANGER - $7.39/hr JOB DUTIES: Provides information regarding state park services and other local attractions to park guests. Provides coverage at the park contact station. Collects appropriate fees and registers overnight camping guests. Required to operate a computer, cash register, hand held radio & multi line phone system. Successful candidates will provide accurate and detailed information on the campsite reservation procedures/information, park fees, directions, pricing, annual passes, trail information, park interpretive programs, and local area information.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 16 years old, have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Prior experience in park work or a related field is desirable. General knowledge of park operations required and ability to positively interact with the public. Must provide own uniform (through Virginia State Park supplier) and must be willing to work shift work, weekends, and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

HOUSEKEEPER - $7.39/hr JOB DUTIES: Primary focus includes proper cleaning of bathroom facilities and one camping lodge. Other job duties include: emptying trash cans, cleaning other facilities within the park as needed, and other miscellaneous maintenance duties. May be required to perform other park related duties during emergencies or on a non- recurrent basis.

QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 16 years old, have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. High school diploma, or equivalent desirable. Preferred candidate will have a combination of experiences, education and/or training in one or more of the following areas: customer service, maintenance of building, grounds and equipment; and cleaning. Must be able to work well with other staff and with park guests. Must provide own uniforms (from Virginia State Park supplier) and must be willing to work shift work, weekends, and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
