CLAYTOR LAKE STATE PARK, Dublin, Virginia has Employment Opportunities for the following positions:

Park Interpreter/Sailing Instructor

PAY RATE: $10.00 per hour and may require work on weekends and holidays. The primary duties include youth sailing/boating instruction and park interpretation. Position provides meaningful educational opportunities and experiences for park guests by interpreting the significance of the park's natural/historical/and cultural resources. Candidates must possess the ability to sail and handle all types of boats; the ideal candidate will have considerable knowledge of the natural environment, possess a relevant degree, or are working to achieve a degree in a natural resources or similar field of study. Prior experience or education in biology, history, parks and recreation, or wildlife studies preferred. Candidates must be enthusiastic and able to lead outdoor educational programs, most specifically sailing and paddle sports, but also campfire programs, roving interpretation, point duty interpretation, and nature hikes that illustrate and demonstrate knowledge of subject matter. Candidates must be willing and able to obtain Water Safety Instructor, and Boating Safety Instructor Certification and current CPR certification. Ideal candidates will possess a US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instructor Certification and Certified Life Guard. Must be able to communicate orally with a wide range of people especially children. Must be friendly and outgoing, and able to accurately maintain reports related to tours or programs. Able to work unsupervised and with a team. Proficient with Microsoft Office.

Food Service Technician II (Assistant Concessions Manager) Starting Pay Rate: 11.00/hr The position will be responsible for assisting with the management of the park's seasonal concession operations including the Water's Edge Meeting facility, Gift Shop and Claytor Lake swim beach and snack bar. Duties include: assist in the ordering and inventory of merchandise, food and beverages; assists customers with rental, setting up and scheduling of the meeting facility events, and the scheduling and supervising of approx 25 summer seasonal employees. Will be required to obtain ServSafe Certification, paid for by the park. Candidate must have valid driver's license. Must be able to work weekends and holidays. Shift work required. Required to operate a computer, cash register, fax machine, handheld radio, & telephone. Prior experience in retail and supervision preferred.

Administrative & Office Specialist I (Contact Ranger) Starting Pay Rate: $8.00/hr Provides information regarding state park services and other local attractions. Provides round the clock coverage at the parks contact station. Collects appropriate fees and registers overnight cabin/camper guests. Required to operate a computer, cash register, fax machine, base station radio & phone system. Position provides accurate and detailed information on the campsite and cabin reservation procedures/information, park fees, directions, pricing, annual passes, trail information, park interpretive programs, and local area information. Performs clerical duties such as answering telephones, copying, and distribution of correspondence. Successful candidates must work weekends and holidays. Some positions require evening shifts.

Administrative & Office Specialist I (Gift Shop Attendant) Starting Pay Rate: $8.00/hr Performs tasks as assigned in the gift shop and Water's Edge Meeting Facility. Duties include, but not limited to, restroom cleaning, arrangement and stocking of merchandise, and cleaning of gift shop & meeting room. Required to assist with setting up meeting room for events, collection & care of monies, and sales of DGIF fishing licenses. Required to operate a computer, cash register, fax machine, handheld radio, & telephone. Position provides accurate and detailed information about rental packages offered by the park. May be required to perform clerical duties such as answering telephones, copying, and distribution of correspondence.

Parks Lifeguard Starting Pay Rate: $9.00/hr Safeguards and regulates the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe practices and accidents; is alert to note possible swimmers in distress. Strictly enforces policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons and promptly warns users of existing safety hazards. Performs rescues and appropriate follow-up procedures including the use of any available equipment in the performance of First Aid/CPR. Performs other duties including, trash/litter pickup, beach cleaning, sweeping sidewalks, & cleaning of beach-house restrooms. Successful candidates must obtain Lifeguard Certification, First Aid and CPR/AED training.

Food Service Technician I (Concession Workers) Starting Pay Rate: $8.00/hr Performs tasks as assigned in the snack bar and beach concession areas. Duties include, but are not limited to, preparing/serving food, washing dishes, and keeping kitchen area & equipment clean & operable. Upkeep of concession interior/exterior to include sweeping the floor/deck, cleaning tables, removing trash and litter, and emptying trash receptacles. Assist supervision in weekly inventories of food and merchandise, Responsible for revenue collection for merchandise/food and reconciling revenue for up to three cash registers. During periods of slow demand will be required to perform restroom/facility cleaning.

Housekeepers Starting Pay Rate: $8.00/hr Primary focus includes proper cleaning of 16 cabins, a meeting facility, park office, bunkhouse, campground and beach area bathhouses. Efficient turnover of cabins by check-in time. Will inventory cabin supplies to ensure they are available for the next guest. Candidates will also be responsible for washing linens which are not supplied by the linen contractor. Bathroom and facility cleaning and upkeep.

Trades Technician I (Maintenance Ranger) Starting Pay Rate: $8.00/hr Performs the recurring grounds care, maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate State Park facilities. Includes cleaning bathhouses, mowing grass, trash and litter removal, cleaning campsites, cabins, meeting facility, picnic shelters, distributing firewood/ice for merchandise sales. Basic knowledge of hand and power tools required.


Successful candidates must work weekends and all holidays. Some positions require evening shifts.
