Parks Lifeguard Safeguards and regulates the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe practices and accidents; is alert to note possible swimmers in distress. Strictly enforces policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons and promptly warns users of existing safety hazards. Performs rescues and appropriate follow-up procedures including the use of any available equipment in the performance of First Aid/CPR. Performs other duties such as boat rentals, swim ticket and merchandise sales as needed, cleaning area surrounding boat rental house and picnic area to include, trash/litter pickup, beach cleaning, sweeping sidewalks, & cleaning of rental boats and equipment. Successful candidate must obtain Lifeguard Certification, First Aid and CPR/AED training. Qualifications: Must be at least 16 years old, have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Must have current Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification or be willing to obtain at your own cost prior to start date. Previous water safety experience preferred, but not required. Must be able to work well with other staff and with park guests. Must be willing to work shift work, weekends, and every holiday from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Food Service Technician I Performs tasks as assigned in the snack bar. Duties include, but are not limited to preparing/serving food and refreshments, washing dishes, and keeping kitchen area & equipment clean & operable. Upkeep of concession to include sweeping, cleaning tables, removing trash and litter. Responsible for weekly inventories of food and merchandise, and revenue collection for merchandise, food and swim ticket sales. Responsible for reconciling revenue for cash registers. During periods of slow demand will be required to perform restroom cleaning. Qualifications: Must have reliable transportation. General knowledge of food preparation and kitchen operation preferred, but not required. Must be able to work well with other staff and with park guests. Must be willing to work shift work, weekends, and every holiday from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Housekeepers Primary focus includes proper cleaning of 7 cabins, a meeting facility, and 4 bedroom lodge. May also be requested to assist with cleaning campground, park office restroom, and main office. Ensures efficient turnover of cabins by check-in time. Will inventory cabin supplies to ensure they are available for the next guest. Responsible for hosting events at conference center, supplying guests with needed amenities, and supervising groups using conference center Qualifications: High school diploma, or equivalent preferred. Must have valid driver's license. Successful candidate will have a combination of experiences, education and/or training in one or more of the following areas: public relations, maintenance of building, grounds and equipment; general knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning.
Parks Interpreter Plans and presents, under the direction of the Park Interpretive Program Coordinator, a variety of programs focusing on the natural, environmental, historic and cultural features of Twin Lakes State Park and the central Piedmont region of Virginia. Programs will include campfires, music programs, nature crafts, natural history/environmental education, and outdoor skills. Will assist with daytime, evening and moonlight canoe tours. Will maintain a log of visitor participation. Will inform park visitors of rules and regulations for the purpose of protecting and preserving Park natural areas. May be required to perform park related duties as needed during emergencies or on a non-recurring basis. Must be willing to work shift work to include weekdays, weekends and holidays, with occasional evenings Qualifications: One year of college with major or minor study in one of the fields of natural sciences or history preferred. Have basic knowledge of Virginia’s flora and fauna, and the ability to plan, organize and conduct tours and programs featuring them. Familiarity with archery, kayak or canoeing techniques helpful. Will train. Must be comfortable with public speaking, and dealing with the general public. A valid Virginia Driver’s License and familiarity with accepted American Red Cross First Aid procedures desirable.
Administrative & Office Specialist I Provides information regarding state park services and other local attractions. Provides coverage at the parks contact station and park office. Collects appropriate fees and registers overnight cabin/camper guests. Required to operate a computer, cash register, fax machine, postage meter, laminator, handheld radio & multi line phone system. Position provides accurate and detailed information on the campsite and cabin reservation procedures/information, park fees, directions, pricing, annual passes, trail information, park interpretive programs, and local area information. Performs clerical duties such as answering telephones, copying, and typing correspondence. Qualifications: Must have reliable transportation. Prior experience in park work or a related field is desirable. General knowledge of park operations required and ability to meet/work well with the public in a pleasing manner. Must provide own uniform (through Virginia State Park supplier) and must be willing to work shift work, weekends, evenings, and every holiday from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day.
Successful candidates must work weekends and all holidays. Some positions require evening shifts.
