Natural Resource Specialist II - Maintenance Ranger (# 00667) Closes 2/15/2013
Closes On: 02/15/2013Position is located at Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield County, VA. This position will be responsible for supervising temporary employees and volunteers in maintenance of park facilities and grounds. Duties also include grounds keeping, small engine repair, equipment inventory and maintenance, painting, plumbing, carpentry, trail construction and maintenance. This position will also be responsible for promoting good public relations, preparing reports, fee collection and enforcing park rules and regulations. Furthermore, will assist in preparation of cost projections, prepare materials lists, obtain bids and makes purchases of supplies/materials as directed by supervisor. The successful candidate will also assists with training seasonal employees and volunteers in the safe and proper use of tools, equipment and proper maintenance of buildings and grounds. The incumbent of this position will also monitor water works and pool chemical operations as requested.
Minimum Qualifications: Experience performing grounds maintenance. Ability to work shift work including weekends and holidays. Knowledge &/or skills in organizing, planning & completion of projects or work orders. Knowledge/experience related to collecting fees & providing rules enforcement. Experience &/or knowledge of natural resources, mgmt techniques/processes & resource protection. Prior customer service experience. Must have physical ability to work in outdoor conditions, occasionally lift heavy weights and have physical dexterity/ability to perform maintenance related tasks. High school diploma or equivalent and valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications: Additional education in park administration, museum operation, history education or closely related field preferred. Experience as a lead worker in a parks or recreational environment and providing customer service also preferred. Experience performing building and small vehicle and engine maintenance. Familiarity with OSHA guidelines and emergency first aid would be helpful.

Hiring Range: $26,162 - $36,383
