James River State Park located in Buckingham County, Virginia has summer employment opportunities for the following summer seasonal positions:

TRADES TECHNICIAN I (MAINTENANCE RANGERS) $7.39-$8.00/hour. Performs the recurring building and grounds care, maintenance, assists Park Rangers with light construction including carpentry, electrical, plumbing and cleaning tasks necessary to operate State Park facilities. Includes cleaning bathhouses, mowing grass, raking and leaf removal, trash and litter removal, cleaning grounds, picnic shelters, and other facilities as needed, Basic knowledge of hand and power tools required. Qualifications: Must be 16 years old, have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation. General knowledge of the use and care of common hand tools and cleaning supplies, ability to organize and perform routine cleaning, and maintenance functions. Must be willing to work shift work, weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day

ADMINISTRATIVE & OFFICE SPECIALIST I (Contact Ranger) $7.39-$8.00/hour. Provides information regarding state park services and other local attractions. May provide coverage at the parks Visitor Center as needed. Collects appropriate fees and routes overnight cabin/camper guests to Park Office registration during appropriate operating hours. Required to operate a computer, cash register, communications radio and phone. Position must be familiar with detailed information on the campsite and cabin reservation procedures/information, park fees, directions, pricing, annual passes, trail information, park interpretive programs, and local area information. May performs clerical duties such as answering telephones, copying, or folding brochures in support of Park Staff (training is provided for these areas). Qualifications: Must have reliable transportation. Prior experience in customer service work or a related field is desirable. Must have computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel. General knowledge of park operations required and ability to meet/work well with the public in a pleasing manner. Must provide own uniform (through Virginia State Park supplier) and must be willing to work shift work, weekends, and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Successful candidates must work weekends and holidays. Some positions require evening shifts.

May provide coverage at the parks Contact Station as needed. Collects appropriate fees and operates Park Gift Shop by stocking merchandise and entering sales. Must assist with Annual Park Inventory beyond regular hours to assure counts. Responsible for cleaning Park Visitor Center, Gift Shop and Displays and windows. Required to operate a computer, cash register, communications radio and phone. Position must be familiar with detailed information on the campsite and cabin reservation procedures/information, park fees, directions, pricing, annual passes, trail information, park interpretive programs, and local area information. May perform clerical duties such as answering telephones, typing, or folding brochures in support of park interpretive staff (training provided for these areas). Qualifications: Must have reliable transportation. Prior experience in customer service work or a related field is desirable. Must have computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel. General knowledge of park operations required and ability to meet/work well with the public in a pleasing manner. HOUSEKEEPERS: $7.39-$8.00/hour. Primary focus includes proper cleaning of 18 cabins, and day use restrooms. Will also be requested on to assist with cleaning campground bathhouses, park office restroom, and concession. Efficient turnover of cabins by check-in time. Will inventory cabin supplies to ensure they are available for the next guest. Candidates will also be responsible for washing linens which are not supplied by the linen contractor. A valid driver's license is required. PARKS CANOE LIVERY WORKERS: $7.25-$8.00/hour. Safeguards and regulates the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe practices and accidents; is alert to note possible boaters in distress. Enforces policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons and promptly warns users of existing safety hazards. Performs rescues and appropriate follow-up procedures including the use of any available equipment in the performance of First Aid/CPR. Performs other duties such as kayak, canoe and bicycle visitor registrations; cleaning Livery area, boat launch shuttle vans, other equipment, and restrooms; to include, trash/litter pickup, equipment maintenance, rental sales and merchandise sales. Previous water safety experience preferred, but not required. Must work well with staff and our park guests. Must be willing to work shift work, weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day

LIVERY MANAGER: $9.65-$10.00/hour. The Livery Manager will be responsible for running the Canoe Livery operation. This will include supervising all Livery Staff, driving shuttles, renting equipment, providing a safe and healthy environment for staff and park guests, and is responsible for all equipment and rental fees collected. Livery Manager will oversee both the Bent Creek and the State Park sites. The Livery Manager will work cooperatively with all park employees and shall be directly supervised by the State Park Chief Ranger. Duties Overall supervision of Canoe Livery and Livery Staff. Responsible for inventory, maintenance/repair and security of all equipment related to Livery. Will be responsible for creating and adhering to a weekly staff schedule. Will work with other Park Employees towards a safe, productive and friendly workplace for all employees and guests. Will balance daily sales receipts and make daily deposit. Will be responsible for driving shuttles, renting equipment, inventory and ordering of store supplies, staff training, maintaining records and reports. Perform other duties as directed by Park Ranger, Chief Ranger or Park Manager. Qualifications Must have extensive canoe/river experience, but not limited to swift water. Experience in providing customer service, sales, money handling, reports, and office equipment is helpful. Must possess driver's license with a clean driver record and have experience or the ability to learn to drive a large passenger van and bus, drive with a trailer including backing, and be able to obtain a CDL–B. Must have 1st Aid/ CPR/AED or have the ability to obtain certification. Should have a strong work ethic and be able to perform without direct supervision or direction. Education High School graduate or GED. Must have strong money accounting abilities and be able to complete financial reports. Uniform Only uniform shirts are provided; shorts or pants must be supplied by employee. Compensation Will work 40 hour week, mostly Thursday – Monday. Some overtime is expected during busy season and holidays.

Some positions require evening shifts.
