This position can either be located in the Staunton or Warrenton Regional offices. The successful candidate will have the option of choosing which office they prefer to be based out of.

The Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation, Division of Soil and Water Conservation, is seeking an individual to serve as an Agricultural Best Management Practice (BMP) Engineering Specialist. This position will provide technical assistance and support to Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs); perform design, construction inspections, and create as built drawings for agricultural BMPs; review designs by SWCD staff for compliance with USDA-National Resource Conservation Service standards and specifications; perform annual reviews of SWCD staff designs and constructed practices for staff that hold Engineering Job Approval Authority as delegated by DCR, and perform other duties related to the Engineering Assistance Program.

Minimum Qualifications:
Degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or related scientific field required. Considerable demonstrated knowledge and experience designing agricultural BMP practices. Considerable demonstrated experience reviewing the designs and construction of agricultural BMP practices. Considerable demonstrated ability to plan effectively, manage tasks and perform engineering principals and practices with minimal supervision.

Prefer Qualifications:
Considerable demonstrated experience working with soil and water conservation districts, local governments, and state/federal agencies related to agricultural BMP's, design review, and construction practices. Considerable demonstrated experience working with Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) conservation practice standards. Previously held engineering job approval authority as issued by NRCS in one or more conservation practices is required.

Special Requirements:

Ability to travel daily with occasional overnight travel required. Must possess a valid driver's license to drive to job related activities or have reliable transportation to get to job related activities.
