Closes On: 02/11/2013Located at Chippokes Plantation State Park in Surry County, VA, this position supervises the interpretive and environmental education programs, and other special events at the park. Duties to include development, implementation and advertising a wide variety of programs evolving around the natural, cultural and historical themes of the site and area. May assist with resource management projects. Develop relationships and work with local school districts, institutes of higher learning, non-profit partnerships, organizations, and community organizations to implement these programs and events. Duties include managing the Park's volunteer program, supervising the Park Volunteer Coordinator, management of seasonal program wage staff, and development and administration of the interpretative program budget. Supervises volunteers to maintain historic collections and documents to museum standards. This position may also be required to perform general park related duties infrequently. Shift work including weekends and holidays is required.
Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must possess good communications and interpretative skills. Experience and knowledge of the development of park related interpretive and environmental education programs. Experience and knowledge working with community partnerships related to educational & interpretive programs. Possess knowledge of marketing and advertising programs and events. Experience working with educational institutions to develop curriculum specific programs for students and teacher. Experience providing customer service and public relations. Experience and knowledge of developing special events. A valid driver's license is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Two years of college preferred with a major study in the field of environmental science, biology or history. Additional communications and public relations experience and/or education beneficial. Experience in the field of Park Interpretation may be partially substituted for the educational requirements. Previous experience providing supervision in an interpretive or museum environment also preferred.
Special Requirements: Must be able to obtain American Canoe Instructor Certification, CPR/1st Aid/AED.
Hiring range $30,606 - $49,225
