Environmental Manager I, Visitor Experience Manager, Central Office (# 00644), Closes 2/14/2013

This position is located in the State Parks Central Office in Richmond, VA. As Visitor Experience Manager for Virginia State Parks, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing and directing the development and delivery of a broad range of environmental education and interpretive programs designed to help park guests, the general public and special interest groups develop an understanding and appreciation of the natural and cultural resources administered by the division and the need to conserve them. The Manager works with field staff and other managers within the Division of State Parks, DCR, related state agencies, the National Park Service, private citizens, conservation groups, volunteers, and others to further the effectiveness of the educational programming. Additionally, independent decisions on all routine budgetary and operational matters (supervision of staff, travel, training, communications, procurement, etc.) for the Visitor Experience Bureau are required with advice and guidance sought from the Visitor Services Manager on policy- level decisions.

Minimum Qualifications: Experience leading/managing an interpretive programming or natural science education environment or experience that would allow the successful performance of the position's duties. Experience developing interpretive short and long range visitor experience management plans. Understanding/knowledge of the principles of graphic layout and design (exhibits, signs, etc.). Management experience including supervision and review of staff, budgeting & procurement responsibilities. Basic research skills, good verbal communication and public speaking skills. Knowledge of and/or interest in Virginia's cultural history, knowledge of interpretive writing and editing, and the ability to possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of the exhibit development process and knowledge of desktop publishing. Master's Degree preferred in an area related to natural science, interpretation, park administration or related field.

Hiring Range $60,000 - $84,062
