District Resource Specialist - Enviro Spec II - State Parks - Position #00516 - Closes 7/20/15

Virginia State Parks is seeking applicants for District 6 Resource Specialist. This position supports the Division of State Parks natural resource management goals providing professional assistance to park managers by developing and assisting with the implementation of comprehensive resource management plans; coordinating resource management prescriptions and activities; coordinating cooperative resource management programs; acquiring grants; and providing protection of resources.

Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate will have: considerable knowledge of resource management and environmental issues, practices, and procedures including basic knowledge of state and federal environmental law, policies, and regulations; the experience and ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with good interpersonal and public relations skills; the demonstrated ability to plan, develop, organize, and manage projects related to resource management; skills to develop and manage grants; the ability to develop partnerships with other resource management agencies and/or organizations with similar resource management objectives. The successful candidate will have the ability to implement native plants and invasive species management techniques, habitat improvement for wildlife and fisheries, and monitor agricultural contracts to ensure following best management practices, perform swim beach water sampling, and perform trail design and maintenance practices.

Preferred Qualifications: A four-year degree in park administration, resource management, forestry, wildlife management or a related natural resource field preferred. An equivalent combination of training and experience indicating abilities may substitute for education. Knowledge or experience in ArcView GIS 10 (or related program) is preferred.

Special Requirements: The successful candidate must have the ability to pass the "Moderate" work capacity test per the National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) guidelines to participate on the burn crew in DCR prescribed fire operations. The "Moderate" or "field test" standard is ability to walk 2 miles in 30 minutes or less with a 25-lb. pack. The District Resource Specialist will obtain certification in CPR and First Aid. This position will support the southwestern region of Virginia and be located at Hungry Mother State Park.

Hiring Range: $41,718 - $56,100
