2013 Employment Douthat State Park Open until filled
Closes On: 08/01/2013Douthat State Park located in Millboro, Virginia has employment opportunities for the following positions:
Parks Interpreter Plans and presents a variety of programs focusing on the natural, environmental, historic and cultural features of Douthat State Park. Programs will include campfires, nature crafts, environmental education, recreational activities and outdoor skills. Will assist with canoe and paddle boat tours of Douthat Lake. Will maintain a log of visitor participation. Will inform park visitors of rules and regulations for the purpose of protecting and preserving Park natural areas. May be required to perform park related duties as needed during emergencies or on a non- recurring basis. A valid driver's license is required. Applicant must be available for evenings, weekends and holidays.
Seasonal (Summer) Positions
Housekeepers Primary focus includes proper cleaning of 32 cabins, 3 lodges, and day use restrooms. Will also be requested on to assist with cleaning campground and beach area bathhouses, park office restroom, and concession. Efficient turnover of cabins by check-in time. Will inventory cabin supplies to ensure they are available for the next guest. Candidates will also be responsible for washing linens which are not supplied by the linen contractor. A valid driver's license is required.
Trades Technician I (Maintenance) Performs the recurring grounds care, maintenance, light construction, and cleaning tasks necessary to operate State Park facilities. Includes cleaning bathhouses, mowing grass, raking/removing leaf litter, trash and litter removal, cleaning campsites, cabins, meeting facility, linen storage building and office, cutting and stocking firewood for sale. Basic knowledge of hand and power tools required. A valid driver's license is required.
Administrative & Office Specialist I (Guest Registration) Provides information regarding state park services and other local attractions. Provides coverage at the park’s contact station and park office. Collects appropriate fees and registers overnight cabin/camper guests. Required to operate a computer, cash register, fax machine, laminator, radio base station & phone system. Position provides accurate and detailed information on the campsite and cabin reservation procedures/information, park fees, directions, pricing, annual passes, trail information, park interpretive programs, and local area information. Performs clerical duties such as answering telephones, copying, and typing correspondence.
Cook Responsible for the safety, sanitation, security and high standard of food production in the kitchen and associated areas of Douthat Lakeview Restaurant. Follows park menus and recipes to insure standardization of quality, presentation and cost control. Works following efficient, timely, (all orders must be served within 20 minutes) safe and cost effective procedures to insure restaurant profitability. Also responsible for completing weekly food and supply orders.
Wait Staff Responsible for insuring the highest standard of service to our guests. He/She welcomes guests to Douthat, takes their order, and serves food and beverages from the kitchen to the guests in a friendly, conscientious manner. Insures the correct collection and recording of all monies due the restaurant. Insures cash and charge tickets are rung correctly. Maintains the restaurant at the highest level of readiness at all times. Makes economical and efficient use of all restaurant supplies.
Boat Dock Attendants Attendants are responsible for insuring the highest standard of service to our guests and must insure that all boats and equipment and the area around boat house and dock meet this standard. Insures all boats have safety equipment before leaving the dock. When not directly serving guests, maintains the boats, boat house, dock and all equipment, at the highest level of readiness, at all times, by inspecting all returning equipment to insure it returns in as good of condition as it left, and by keeping all equipment clean, dry and in good repair. Insures the correct collection and recording of all monies due for boat rentals, keep records of all guest usage, and accurately close and record daily transactions.
Camp Store Cashiers are responsible for insuring the highest standard of service to our guest and must insure that all monies owed the State for goods or services are collected and recorded correctly. Inspects and matches to invoice all deliveries, and passes paperwork to supervisors. Use of DGIF computerized site to sell all fishing licenses. Complete daily stocking of merchandise in camp store.
Beach Staff Cashiers are responsible for insuring the highest standard of service to our guest and must insure that all monies owed the State for goods or services are collected and recorded correctly. Insures food is always present, is of the highest quality, and is safe for our guests. Responsible for upkeep-and cleanliness of the beach house and surrounding outside areas.
Lifeguards Responsible for safe operation of the swimming area by safeguarding and regulating the conduct of patrons to prevent unsafe practices and accidents; is alert to note possible swimmers in distress. Strictly enforces policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons and promptly warns users of existing safety hazards. Performs rescues and appropriate follow-up procedures including the use of any available equipment in the performance of First Aid/CPR. Performs other duties including, trash/litter pickup, beach cleaning, sweeping sidewalks, & cleaning of beach-house restrooms. Successful candidates must obtain Waterfront Lifeguard Certification, First Aid and CPR/AED training.
Head Lifeguard Responsible for safe operation of the swimming area, supervision of all lifeguards, day to day operational decisions including but not limited to; chair rotations, weekly/monthly training, and visitor complaints. Will assist supervisor in creation of work schedules of lifeguards that maximizes daily coverage of beach area. Strictly enforces policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons and promptly warns users of existing safety hazards. Performs rescues and appropriate follow-up procedures including the use of any available equipment in the performance of First Aid/CPR. Performs other duties including, trash/litter pickup, beach cleaning, sweeping sidewalks, & cleaning of beach-house restrooms. Successful candidates must obtain Lifeguard Certification, First Aid and CPR/AED training.
Successful candidates must work weekends and all holidays. Some positions require evening shifts.
