The Chesterfield County office of Virginia Cooperative Extension will be participating in National and State Pollinator Weeks by hosting our fourth annual Bumblebee Jamboree at Maymont Park. The event includes displays, activities for adults and children, puppet shows, games, storytelling and crafts. Information on pollinator plant selections, pollinator friendly pest control options and a sampling station of pollinator-dependent foods. Gloves, trash bags and water will be available for volunteers. Walk the shoreline and help provide the local wildlife and visitors with a healthier environment.   • 04/18/2015. Help our struggling bees and butterflies find a safe oasis in our rapidly developing world. Bring a pair of work gloves and give us a hand in building a pollinator's paradise. We will be pulling weeds, planting host and nectar plants, and sharing a few green gardening tips that you can use in your own yard. In just a few hours, we hope to crate a garden we can register as a Monarch Way Station to help Monarch Watch track monarch butterflies as they migrate across the country. DCR/Leesylvania State Park. Staunton River State Park needs your help installing pre-assembled benches around a beautiful stone fire ring in the Equestrian Campground. Allow your eyes to inhale the beauty of the park while you establish a resting spot for campers to appreciate for years to come! After the project has been completed, we will inaugurate the benches by roasting hot dogs and marshmallows!
