The staff provides local officials with

• Technical and planning assistance and information
• Floodplain maps and mapping guidance; and
• Model ordinances to communities interested in joining the NFIP, as well as to participating communities.

Program staff also provides information to

• Homeowners
• Business owners
• Lenders
• Professional land surveyors
• Realtors
• Many others

DCR also conducts workshops on how to read and use flood maps, develop floodplain management strategies, comply with the NFIP, evaluate flood-proofing strategies and interpret ordinances. Staff members also review local ordinances for compliance with the NFIP standards.

Assistance is also provided to those communities in the NFIP seeking to lower flood insurance premiums through the Community Rating System (CRS).
