Course Description:
This course provides an organized training opportunity for local officials responsible for administering their local floodplain management ordinance. The course will focus on the NFIP and concepts of floodplain management, maps and studies, ordinance administration, and the relationship between floodplain management and flood insurance. Over the last year or so, FEMA has been updating the materials for the L-273 course, and Virginia was selected to pilot the updated materials! DCR is excited to be able to host the pilot course in Virginia, and we hope that you will attend and provide useful feedback to FEMA.
This training will cover the updated materials for the L-273 course and will be the first time it has been taught. FEMA staff from across the country will be in Virginia to teach the course. The is the first time this new material has been taught, but FEMA wants your feedback! After the pilot is offered, FEMA will use your feedback to make final updates to the course before it is launched at EMI and nationally.
The Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) exam will be offered on Friday, February 8, 2019 following this training. For more information, please click here.
Continuing Education Credits:
CFM: This course has been pre-approved by ASFPM for 12 CECs.
AICP: DCR will request CM credit approval for this course but CM credits have not been approved at this time.
The training facility is 5-10 minutes from a variety of food and lodging establishments. Food will not be provided as part of this training. The room does have a kitchen if you'd prefer to bring your own food.
