Spend the day in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed, right here in Cumberland County.

We hope that you will take advantage of the trails today to enjoy celebrate all that the trails provide us -- fitness, health, and a sense of well-being.

Support and elevate the women of Afghanistan and Pakistan with a beautiful hike hosted by Ascend.

As a special opportunity during the park's quarterly cleanup, for Clean the Bay Day 2024 two park rangers will be leading a volunteer shoreline cleanup from the water!

Start the day off with a wonderful morning hike.  This gentle paced hike will take one of our favorite trails and be greeted with sounds of the forest and meadows along the way.    Meet our hike guide at the Trail Head near the  parking lot and the pollinator garden.   Be prepared for a variety of terrain.

Celebrate National Trails Day and give back to Mother Nature by helping to clean our park and keep it beautiful.

Wanting to get involved in your local park!

Join a ranger and learn about the natural history of Westmoreland State Park and about the particular fossils you can find here.

Join the ranger on land and walk the shorelines to help clean litter (perfect for families with young children that want to lend a hand) or dock your boat at our Visitor Center (VC docks are south of the swimming beach) and we'll provide trash bags to each boat, canoe, kayak or SUP to help us clean from the water.

Each year on the first Saturday of June, thousands of Virginians simultaneously descend on the rivers, streams, and beaches of the Chesapeake Bay watershed to remove harmful litter and debris.

Enjoy a morning of family fun, fish, learn about the Potomac River, and maybe win a trophy!  Sponsored by the Friends of Leesylvania State Park, these fishing tournaments throughout the summer are suitable for all ability levels, ages 3-15.  No rod and reel?  No problem!  The Friends have suitable tackle on hand to loan.  We hope to see you there!

Celebrate National Trails Day at Natural Tunnel State Park by taking your walking stick to the next level.

 Join park staff, volunteers and  community partners for a series of events celebrating African-American culture, resilience, and joy.

Have you ever been at a historic site and noticed trash on trails, in the parking lot, or litter just lying around blowing gently in the breeze? This is your chance to help us patrol the battlefield for trash and assist us in cleaning up a section of our hiking trail down by Sailor's Creek. All equipment will be provided.

Join our staff for a guided tour of Mulberry Hill, the plantation home of Judge Paul Carrington, Virginian and Founding Father. Mulberry Hill was a working tobacco farm owned by the McPhails during the American Civil War and was used by Union General Wilson as his headquarters during the 1864 cavalry raid into Southside Virginia.

Working our way around the shores of beautiful Douthat Lake, we will pick up litter and clear out dead branches and debris.

Celebrate National Trails Day with a scenic guided walk along the New River Trail. This easy one-mile round-trip walking tour will take visitors outside one of the oldest mining operations in North America: the Austinville lead mines.

National Trails Day provides an opportunity for all outdoor enthusiasts to venture out onto their favorite trails for exercise and entertainment.

Flutter on over to meet with Master Naturalist Kim Manion to discuss all things butterflies.

Over 200 years ago, early adventurers like Daniel Boone walked these same hills and valleys we see today.

Follow your nose to the Log Cabin to see what is cooking on the hearth.
